Today Senate Democratic leadership refused to allow a discussion, debate or a vote on Senate Resolution 138 condemning the Democratic Socialist of America platform and reaffirming California's commitment to American values.
The resolution authored by Senator Suzette Martinez Valladares (R-Santa Clarita) and six of her colleagues was blocked, with no debate, no discussion, and no vote.
The resolution does not propose a single new law or spend a single taxpayer dollar. It simply reaffirms what most Californians already believe: communities should be safe, life should be affordable, government should be accountable, and the principles of individual liberty and free enterprise that this country was built on should be defended.
Apparently, that is too controversial for Sacramento's majority party.
"If these ideas come from real desperation over the cost of living and fear about a fading American Dream, we owe Californians an honest conversation about why this agenda is a recipe for disaster, not a slogan," said Sen. Valladares. "We have to lower costs and expand opportunities for working families. This agenda is not compatible with American values or the values of the families I represent. It should not be controversial for my colleagues to say so."
An Agenda That Threatens Everything Californians Care About
The resolution simply articulates an agenda that is incompatible with American and California values. The Democratic Socialists of America are actively pushing to seize private property, hand the government control of entire economic sectors, pile unsustainable spending onto the backs of taxpayers, and abolish police and prisons.
The DSA’s call to abolish police and prisons is particularly concerning in a state already struggling with crime and public safety.
The historical record on this ideology is not a matter of debate. Governments built on Marxist and socialist foundations have produced some of the darkest chapters in human history, with tens of millions of people perishing under communist regimes through famine, political repression, and state-sponsored violence. This is not an abstract warning. It is history. And California should be pushing back against this agenda, not protecting it from scrutiny.
Sacramento's Priorities Are Upside Down
California families are paying the highest gas prices in the nation. Employers are being crushed by a $20 billion unemployment debt that Sacramento created and refuses to fix. Communities across the state are struggling with rising crime. The majority party's response is to silence seven senators who dared to say affordability, public safety, and American values are worth defending, or at least discussing.
"If the DSA agenda is so defensible, debate it," said Sen. Valladares. "If affordability and public safety are priorities, prove it. Stop silencing the people's representatives and start delivering results for the people you serve."
The resolution was co-authored by Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones (R-San Diego) and several other State Senators.
